Instagram is one of the fast-growing social media platforms with more than 500 million active users. Out of which 80% of Instagram accounts are Business Accounts. Many Brands use Instagram as their primary platform for Marketing. Because Instagram provides more reach than other social media platforms. The best Instagram profiles have a few things in common, including easily identifiable usernames, a recognisable profile picture, a steady stream of Instagram Stories and photos, an informative yet delightful bio, a link to a relevant landing page or campaign, and more.
Keep reading to learn how to customise your Instagram profile so it looks good, tells your potential followers who you are, and gives them a reason to follow and engage with you.
1. Public Profile (Not Private)
By default, your Instagram profile will be public. Therefore, anyone in the world can view your profile and posts on Instagram.
But, for Business account, there is no option to turn your Business account private. However, that is what we want. We want everyone to look at our posts and follow our brand. Otherwise, if we keep our profile private No one will be able to see our posts, which could deter them from following our brand page.
2. Recognisable & Searchable @Username
Start by creating a username for your Business which should be same as your Business Name. As a result, it will be easy for people to find your brand page so easily. If your username is already taken, try to keep your business name as the first part of your username. Therefore, people searching for your business are more likely to come across your profile.
To edit your username: Go to your profile page and click the “Edit Profile” button to the right of your profile photo.
Then edit your Username and save it.
3. Easily Searchable Business Name
Next step is giving your exact business name. As mentioned in the previous section, here also we have to make our business name same as username. This will appear under your username in the search result preview.
For example, I have attached the preview of the search result of our page:
To edit your username: Go to your profile page and click the “Edit Profile” button to the right of your profile photo. Then edit your Name and save it.
4. An On-Brand Instagram Profile Picture
Your profile photo is one of the first things people see when they visit your Instagram profile, as it’s displayed prominently in the top right-hand corner. Most importantly, it should be something easily recognisable. For most Brands, this will be their logo.
For reference, keep in mind the minimum profile picture size for Instagram is 110 x 110 pixels (1:1 ratio – which is a perfect square). Don’t deviate too far from this minimum size. However, making profile pic below 200 x 200 px is encouraged so users don’t see a blurry or stretched photo when visiting your profile page.
In the example below, you’ll see the corners are shaded, meaning Instagram will cut them off in the actual profile photo:
To add or change a profile photo: Go to your profile page and click “Edit Profile”. Then, tap “Change Photo”.
5. Crisp & Informative Bio
Like your profile photo, your “bio” (i.e., the description at the top of your profile) is one of the first things visitors to your profile will see. Above all, this is going to give crisp information about your brand. You have a max of 150 characters for bio. Use them to let people know what you’re about and give them a reason to follow you. Include who you are and what you do, and be sure to add a hint of personality. Above all, I recommend you to add emoji in bio such that it makes more interesting and good to read.
For example, here shown you the preview of our page bio:
6. Trackable Link in Your Bio (You can change regularly)
One of the biggest frustrations people have with Instagram is that it isn’t exactly a great platform for driving traffic away to a website, blog, or somewhere else. That’s because clickable URLs aren’t allowed anywhere except the single “website” box in your bio.
Engage users by updating that URL frequently to point to your latest blog content, e-book, YouTube video, product, affiliate links or offer. For example, are you running a contest, or want to increase subscribers to your blog? Just change the link, and then post a photo that mentions the new link in its caption.
For example, have a look at an Instagram profile which has provided the e-book link in their bio.
To change the link in your bio: Go to your profile page and click “Edit Profile.” Then, simply insert the URL of your choosing into the URL box.
7. Enabled Push Notifications
Check your notification settings to make sure notifications are enabled. So you can see when people share or comment on your photos. This will let you engage with them more quickly and easily.
To enable notifications: Go to “Settings” and then “Notification”. After that go to “Push Notifications” and enable push notifications from everyone.
8. A Clean Instagram Feed
Your Instagram feed is more important to attract people. When people visit your profile, chances are, the first thing they’ll do is scroll through the first ten or so posts in your feed. The quality of those posts will be a big factor in whether or not that person follows you or not.
Here are some of the key ingredients that you should follow to make your Instagram profile look attractive.
#1 Experiment with profile colours
The most simple, popular and yet incredibly effective way to make a stylish account is posting photos in one-coloured theme. Repeat the same colour in different ways: using filters, objects, the colour of the background.
For example, let’s take a look at all images of an Instagram account @ihavethisthingwithpink. As is clear from the title these contain pink in all its conceivable manifestations.
#2 Use standard template
In order to make your feed look good, use a standard template for your page. You can try this if you are creating unique content for your followers.
For example, let’s take a look at the template of an Instagram account @innervoicew.f. They follow a standard template for their posts.
Also, consider the seasonal trends that take place over the course of the year. Alter your template temporarily to honour the trend. For example, have look at the change of template of the same Instagram account @innervoicew.f for Republic day of India.
#3 Use the effect of a chessboard
One more way to make your page look more appealing is by providing the effect of a chessboard. It engages the user, encouraging him to consider the content. You can create a board by alternating two colours, and you can interleave text and image also. Please note that this method was used by a lot of artists-modernists. It is effective, appropriate and stylish.
For example, let’s have a look at our Instagram page @strivetowardsuccess, where we use the effect of a chessboard.
#4 Shift the borders
You can go against the system and turn the square interface in any other form, or change the aspect ratio of the photos. There are a few simple but effective options:
Make the white frame
Just add a white border around the photo. Your image will get the classic proportions and it will look more professional and unusual. And the unusual attracts. The smaller your account will be like hundreds and thousands of others, the more customized it will be and thus the faster will grow its popularity, and therefore your sales. For example, have a look at the Instagram account @timmytoesamsterdam where he used this pattern.
A white or coloured background
It can be used for landscape and portrait images, and fix them inside 1:1 ratio. For example, have a look at the Instagram profile @matthewolves where he used this type for landscape photos.
A black frame
It will distinguish your profile, as it is rarely used. But it is necessary to be careful: make sure it fits your topic, do not spoil the mood and overall impression. Generally, black colour is a good find. Many people are afraid to use it, fearing to create a dark and oppressive effect, but in the capable hands, the black colour creates miracles, giving strict “classical” style.
is also a very rare effect. The problem is that the circle limits the possibilities. Some goods can not get in or show them completely will be difficult. But for the sake of the experiment, you can try this method, it is applicable with proper execution. For example, have a look at the Instagram account @jay95dc he used rounded frame along with chessboard pattern.
Also, we will provide you with a list of several applications that will help you to experiment with the boundaries of your content:

#5 High-Quality Images
Always post high-quality photos in your Instagram account. Moreover, post photos only related to your niche. Because irrelevant post will affect your brand as well as it’ll not appeal to people to follow your page.
9. Consistent & Regular Posts
A Good Instagram profile is an active one. Because quality content is so important, you don’t need to worry about posting multiple times a day. Instead, focus on creating high-quality content and then posting them at the right times for your specific audience.
So, you might think what time of day is the best time to post to Instagram? Because Instagram is primarily an app for use on mobile devices, users tend to use the network all the time, any time. Although research shows that many users engage with content more after work hours.
